Antique volume, measuring approximately 5" x 7.75", is bound in quarter leather and textured brown cloth covers, with stamped ornamental designs. Spine, with stamped gilt lettering, displays rubbing; outside corners of boards show very minor loss. Binding is firm. Lightly age-toned pages have very occasional light pencil markings. Old annotated piece of paper, with dried out flower, has been laid in between pages 186-187, and a four-leaf clover between pages 74-75. Frontispiece map is intact. Eight pages of advertisements precede title page.
This reader is by American lexicographer and educator Ethan Allen Andrews (1787 – 1858), who published a major Latin dictionary in 1850.
