US painter Conrad Wise Chapman (1842-1910) is best known for his paintings of the US civil war.  He also holds the distinction of being one of the first American artists to visit Mexico and paint there. This rare catalogue offers an account and discussion of works that resulted from his fifteen-month stay in that country, including a series of landscape paintings depicting the geographic center of Mexican life and culture.
