Large-format two-volume set (T. 1. Text und Katalog/T. 2. Das "Skizzenbuch."), each volume measuring approximately 8.75" x 12", is like new. Volumes are preserved in cardstock slipcase showing wear, with tears along several edges.
Architectural drawings by one of the most important builders of the Baroque and Rococo periods in southern Germany. The "sketchbook" of German architect Balthasar Neumann form the basis of this study of his working methods and of 18th-century decorative art. This publication provides a history of said sketchbook and an account of Neumann as draughtsman and his relation to decoration, as well as a chapter on designs by Daniel Schenk as "contributions to the history of the décor/furnishings of Pommersfelden castle and the Erbach monastery."
