Volume is bound in blind-stamped brown cloth, with stamped gilt lettering and emblem to spine. The German imperial eagle is blind stamped on front cover. The book shows scattered speckling to covers and minor rubbing at edges of boards. Very minor loss can be seen at top edge of rear cover. Mild soiling is visible at edges of text block. Binding is sound. Book has chocolate brown endpapers. Period inscription, dated 1885, appears on front flyleaf and the notation "Heness was my German teacher at Yale. (Illegible word/name)" is written in pencil on a blank preliminary page. Pages are clean and without markings.
