This book is part of a series reproducing texts from the Biblioteca Colombina, a library in Seville containing incunabula and rare works on the discovery of America, including manuscripts written by Christopher Columbus himself.
This volume reproduces a work by Renaissance humanist Enea Silvio Bartolomeo Piccolomini (1405-1464), who in 1458 became Pope Pius II. It represents an updating of geographical knowledge relating to the Asian continent and an account of the most recent events relating to the confrontation of Christian cities and the Ottoman Empire. "Descripción de Asia"  was of great interest to Columbus, who studied and annotated it. These marginal notes are reproduced in this edition.
