Volume, measuring approximately 5.5" x 8.25", is bound in brown cloth, with gilt-lettered black spine compartment and stamped tile in black on front cover, under author's name in gold, and above pictorial design in gold within black setting. Book displays light shelfwear. Binding is cracked at title page and at last page. Pages are clean and without markings. Illustrated with vignettes and plates reproducing woodcuts by A. Goncharov.
One of the most famous translations of Goethe's tragedy. Boris Leonidovich Pasternak (1890-1960) was a Russian poet, writer, and one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1958.
