"Frank A. Barney (1862-1954), resident artist of Auburn, New York for over seventy years, can easily be remembered by the older generation and has become an area legend for the rest of the community. Supporting himself primarily by the sale of his paintings to area residents, Barney became well known in the region for his descriptive landscapes of Finger Lakes scenery. His realm of aristic endeavor was, however, more broad. In his twenty-odd years of painting, he traveled to New York City, Europe, Chicago, Connecticut, Colorado and Michigan, and throughout New York State producing a wide range of landscapes as well as occasional portraits and still lifes. The intent of this retrospective and catalog is to illustrate the successful diversity of his artistic expression through the years, and bring it to public attention and appreciation."
