"For several years the Pacific has been the focus of public interest. Over the last two hundred years, Europeans have shaped and shaped the Pacific islands to a significant extent, and the islanders have responded in their own way. These cultural, political and economic relationships between antipodes represent an interesting aspect of modern human history. The study is first devoted to the philosophical and cultural concepts that Europe applied to the Pacific and which were therefore not only limited to Hawai'i, but also to other islands especially Tahiti. This is followed by an examination of the actual development of Hawai'i, whereby the deeds and achievements of German-speaking explorers, adventurers, writers, artists, musicians, businessmen and statesmen deserve a lot of attention. Their attitude in relation to these influences are quite revealing, and their echoes on "na'aina Kelemania" ("the German lands") attract the author's particular attention."
