"Charlotte Brontë and Her Readers" - a selection of reviews - includes favorable exchanges with William Makepeace Thackeray as well as Bronte's retorts to negative reviews by Elizabeth Rigby and "The Christian Remembrancer."
While retaining two essay from the first edition (those by Virginia Woolf and Robert B. Heilman), the Criticism section has been revised to include recent scholarship of "Jane Eyre," with important feminist interpretations by Adrienne Rich, Sandra M. Gilbert, and Helene Moglen, and an essay by Terry Eagleton.
