Russian-language study of chess openings and a "short history of chess culture" by Soviet chess player, author, and journalist Vasily Nikolayevich Panov (1906-1973), who was winner of the Moscow City Championship in 1929, played in five USSR Chess Championships from 1935 to 1948, and was awarded the International Master title by the International Chess Federation in 1950.
