Gonzalo de Berceo (Berceo, c. 1196-c. 1264) was a medieval poet and one of the foremost representatives of the "mester de clerecía". He professed as a monk at the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla.
His narrative and didactic works in verse consistently address religious themes and consist primarily of hagiographies—that is, biographies of saints—especially those venerated at the monasteries with which he was associated.
