Key work by V. Y. Propp (1895-1970), a Soviet philologist, folklorist, professor at Leningrad University. He received worldwide recognition as the founder of the comparative typological method in folklore studies and was one of the creators of modern text theory. Modern structuralists consider V. Y. Propp one of their predecessors.
