José Hierro del Real (1922-2002) was a Spanish poet, belonging to the first postwar generation of writers and identified as an exponent of the current known as "la poesía desarraigada." This poetry collection was awarded the 1965 Premio de la Crítica de poesía castellana. Hierro was also the recipient of Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras in 1981 and the Premio Cervantes in 1998, among numerous other awards.
