Novel, originally published in 1940, written by Costa Rican author Carlos Luis Fallas Sibaja (1909-1966). His first novel, partially autobiographical, as Fallas worked as a lineman for the United Fruit Company and the novel exposes the social injustices and miserable conditions in which workers at the U.S. multinational corporation lived. The novel is considered Carlos Luis Fallas's most important work and is a classic of Costa Rican literature.
