A sociological study that begins with the description of the development of female spirituality from the 12th century and the appearance and later evolution of a female branch of the Dominican order. The main focus is the monastery of Santo Domingo de Caleruega in Castille, including an analysis of its founding, construction, monastic life, its economic and patrimonial basis, its social network and influence. The study explores the ties its nuns had through these various aspects of their existence to ecclesiastical institutions, the monarchy and medieval society.
