The Press of the American Institute of Architects, 1925. This is copy 628 of a limited edition of 1,000. Author's handwritten and signed card laid in. 124 pages. Complete with 24 watercolor prints and 44 plates.
Antique elephant folio, quarter tan cloth over dark blue cloth, with stamped gilt lettering to front cover shows moderate wear, with front cover displaying sunning to edges and small stains. Yellow ribbon ties are intact. The text and plates are loose and laid in, as issued. Verso of front cover and half title page exhibit foxing, with mild foxing appearing on title page. Plates and pages are clean and without markings.
Text of card reads as follows:
"Dear Ruth Greenough, / The Old Bridges of France / goes to you with warm friend- / ship & affection from Frau (illegible word) / It represents some / happy months of travel for / us & we hope will carry an / echo of those days to you. / Feb 4 - 51 / Yours D. W. Emerson."
Newspaper clipping dated May 5, 1957 with Emerson obituary is also laid.
William Emerson (1873 – 1957) was an American architect and the first dean of the MIT School of Architecture from 1932 to 1939. He was instrumental in establishing a city planning department at MIT.
