Boris Akunin is the pen name of Grigori Chkhartishvili (b. 1956), a Russian writer of Georgian and Jewish origin, best known as writer of detective and historical fiction. This work belongs to the series known as "The Adventures of Sister Pelagia," revolving around "a crime-solving nun in turn-of-the-20th-century provincial Russia."
