Angel González Muñiz (1925 – 2008) was a major Spanish poet of the twentieth century, associated with the Generación del 50. He was awarded the prestigious Premio Antonio Machado in 1962, Premio Príncipe de Asturias in 1985, the Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana in 1996 and the inaugural Premio Federico García Lorca in 2004. He was a member of the Real Academia Española from 1996 and taught at the University of New Mexico from 1974 to 1994.
