Each volume, measuring approximately 6.5" x 9.25", is bound in black cloth, with stamped red lettering to spine and stamped gilt lettering to front cover. Books show light shelfwear. Small tear appears at top of rear spine edge of first volume. Binding of first and sixth volume are cracked at the rear; upper outside corners of boards and text block display light bumped corners. Interiors are clean and bright. Volumes 2, 7 and 8 have dust jackets exhibiting shelfwear. 
"This edition comprises all of Shakespeare’s works that can be reliably attributed to him. The text is based on the most authoritative English edition—the so-called Cambridge Edition. This publication represents the second complete collection of Shakespeare’s works to be issued during the Soviet era. Compared to its predecessor, the present edition features a more extensive apparatus of supplementary materials. In addition to an introductory essay by A. Smirnov—which offers a general overview of Shakespeare’s creative oeuvre—each play is accompanied by a separate critical essay and commentary. The final volume contains an essay by A. Anikst on the history of Shakespearean productions on the international stage, as well as in pre-revolutionary Russian and Soviet theaters. This essay is illustrated with reproductions of the most outstanding stage portrayals and productions."
