Antique folio volume, measuring approximately 10.75" x 14.75", is handsomely bound in three-quarter red leather, with marbled boards, raised bands, and panelled spine with elaborate gilt lettering and ornamentation. Book shows light shelfwear. with mild rubbing to covers. Binding is firm, gilt edges to text block and with marbled endpapers. Antique bookplate and visiting card are affixed to front pastedown. Frontispiece plates and tissue guard exhibit light foxing. Title page and pages of text are clean and bright. Plates, printed on pink or white paper, have darkened edges. Foxing is clearly visible at top margin of final plate and on following pages. Plates are otherwise remarkably well preserved in bright colors. The plates are stipple engravings, with tissue guards, offering full-page portraits, and are by various engravers. All listed plates are present, as well as four not included in "List of Plates": frontispieces of Holbein and his wife, and the portraits of Henry and Charles, sons of Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. Each portrait of this collection is accompanied by a letterpress commentary on the subject's life.
