Interior is otherwise clean and bright. Embossed card from the Siemens foundation is laid in. Cover reproduces the 1833 painting by François-Auguste Biard "Esclaves sur la côte ouest africaine."
This is an enlarged version of a speech given at the the Siemens Foundation on February 28, 2000. Jürgen Osterhammel (b. 1952) is a German historian specialized in world history. He was recipient of the Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts in 2017 and awarded the Balzan Prize for Global History in 2018.
