First edition with inscription to Howard Zinn signed by authors. Volume is bound in blue cloth, with stamped gilt lettering to spine. Book shows very light shelfwear. Binding is cracked at half title page. Pages are clean and bright. Dust jacket displays wear and occasional minor loss at edges and small abrasion on front panel. Jacket is preserved in paper-backed mylar cover.
Inscription on front flyleaf reads "Feb 1980 / Howard - / We both appreciate the / support you lent to this / project. Your foreword / effectively captured the intent / of our work. William Griffen (1929-2007) was a civil rights activist, academic and Professor Emeritus at SUNY Cortland, the longest-serving faculty member in the history of the SUNY system at the time of his death. John Marciano is professor emeritus of education at the State University of New York, Cortland, and a longtime activist, teacher, and trade unionist. Howard Zinn (1922-1910) was an American historian and social activist, political science professor at Boston University and author of the landmark "A People's History of the United States" (Harper & Row, 1980).
