"Since the second half of the nineteenth century, the City of Genoa has owned three of the most beautiful palazzi in the sixteenth-century Strada Nuova, now known as Via Garibaldi. Since that time, two of them, Palazzo Rosso and Palazzo Bianco, hae always been museums, with art collections that are famous the world over. While remaining the official set of the Municipality, Palazzo Tursi is now joined to the other two buildings to form a single museum complex which, under the name of "Musei di Strada Nuova" also includes an extraordinary sereies of courtyards, gardens and scenic terraces. Since 2001, important works have been carried out on much of the complex, providing the three buildings with study and service facilities (the documentation centre, auditorium, and so on) with a view to enhancing their already well-established image, enlarging the exhibition space, and improving the public display of their vast heritage of art, culture and civilisation. Restoration has brought to light new art treasures and new elements in the history of the buildings: this book takes stock of the current situation and of all that has been achieved for the year in which Genoa has been nominated European Capital of Culture."
