Filled with exquisite pavilions, weathered rocks, sunken courtyards and winding galleries, the Garden in the Forbidden City in Beijing became Emperor Qianlong's favorite retreat. In 1923, the Garden burnt down, and in 1998, the China Heritage Fund offered to support a restoration. This is an account of that five year plan.
