The Wisdom of the Zohar: Texts from the Book of Splendour (Mishnat ha-Zohar).
Jerusalem: Bialik Institute, 1957/1961. Systematically arranged and translated into Hebrew with introductions, explanations and variants by Yeruham Fishel Lachover and Isaiah Tishby for first volume, and only Tishby for Volume Two. First volume is a second edition.
Two-volume set, each volume measuring approximately 7.5" x 10", is bound in brown (for first volume) and red cloth (for second volume). Books are in fine condition. Inscription in Hebrew appears at top of front flyleaf of first volume. Bindings are firm. Interiors are clean and bright. Dust jackets, preserved in mylar, exhibit light shelfwear, with minor loss showing at top of spine panel of first volume.
Rare early and first edition of this the fundamental work of Jewish mysticism. Isaiah Tishby (1908-1992)was Emeritus Professor of Philosophical, Mythical, and Ethical Hebrew at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem until his death. He was awarded the Bialik Prize 1972, the Israel Prize 1979, and the Rothschild Prize 1982, mainly for his work on "The Wisdom of the Zohar."
